Enterprise Architect - Infrastructure

12+ months project
Durham, NC

Position Summary:
The Infrastructure Architect is responsible for defining technology strategies, driving and influencing technology choices, establishing standards and policies used by operations teams, and assisting engineering and production teams as needed for escalation support. Provide thought leadership in adoption and implementation of the following:
* Reference Architecture Library
* Policies/Standards/Procedures
* Capacity Planning Program
* Proven strong ability to see the 'big picture' and able to implement strategies that align tasks/people/requirements for success in meeting the department goals
* Provide training and mentoring to the Infrastructure team members.
* Provide support for tier 4 engineering escalations
* Gather and analyze project requirements, design and implement multi-layer infrastructure architecture components

Key Responsibilities (in descending order of importance):

Establish infrastructure architecture strategies, choices, and standards
- This includes the management of the performance, availability, capacity, compliance, and responsiveness of the services delivered by all service providers.- 40%
Roadmap management of all Cloud based services
This includes defining the current and future Cloud capabilities provide by Clorox IT across infrastructure areas such as; Data Center Services, Network Services, Security, End User Services, etc.- 40%
Support strategic initiatives including support of service transition processes. Lead continuous improvement initiatives to drive higher efficiency and performance of network services - 20%

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience in the development of departmental strategies, goals, policies and standards for data center services.
  • Experience in establishing, implementing and maintaining the processes and procedures needed to effectively leverage enterprise Cloud services.
  • Experience in managing an environment with a wide range of computing configurations with an eye towards leveraging cloud based services where appropriate integration.
  • Good all-round understanding of server and storage management, virtualization, networking, systems management, and Secured Hosting / Cloud services
  • Experiencing working with Enterprise Architecture teams to design and implement infrastructure solutions across areas such as; Data Center Services, Network Services, Security, End User Services, and Cloud services
  • Experiencing managing service and infrastructure asset lifecycles.
  • Years and Type of Experience: 10-15 years of experience working within IT in the areas of Data Center Services, Network Services, Security, End User Services
  • 2+ Experience delivering IaaS/PaaS/SaaS-based enterprise solutions preferred
  • 10+ years of technical services management experience

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Proven time management skills (organization and prioritization)
  • Proactively manage individual workload while driving team deliverables
  • Complete understanding of UNIX/Linux Operating Systems, Microsoft Windows Server Platforms, Clustered and HA technologies, and HA methods, virtualization platforms including VMware, Cloud Computing(IAAS/PAAS), Object Storage and Storage Gateway protocols including Block, CIFS and NAS, data replication technologies, event monitoring and configuration management tools
  • Hardware Platforms: Cisco UCS, HP, Hitachi, NetApp, Commvault, Brocade and emerging technologies.
  • Must demonstrate strong information organization and presentation skills, including to senior management and large audiences
  • Demonstrable and consistent history of successful project engagements on an enterprise scale, preferably in the retail industry
  • Must work well in a fast paced collaborative environment
  • Familiarization with cloud/storage technologies.

Education Level/Degree:

  • Experience working in a global Network Engineering and Operations team for a highly distributed enterprise.
  • Experience running and maintaining a 24x7 production environment, preferably across multiple data centers.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Sciences, Engineering, or related field (an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience may be considered)
  • 8+ years of Core Server and Storage Experience including Data Center, Cloud Engineering, Monitoring, Infrastructure & Config Management and Scripting
  • Expert skill in diagnosing, solving complex problems and providing detailed technical analysis
  • Superior oral and written communication skills. Ability to exhibit a commanding presence when necessary
  • Superior computer skills including in common business applications such as MS Visio.
  • Knowledge of theory and principles of project management
